On February 11th, the Westford Academy boys’ basketball team was victorious against Boston Latin with a final score of 77-38. From the start of the game, WA was leading and never letting up, allowing them to finish up just as strong as they began. WA managed to remain in the lead all four periods.

In the first quarter Westford Academy was already putting in effort with five minutes into the game with junior Nick Fiorillo making multiple baskets, making the score 11-5. Soon after, Fiorillo again made a nice interception of the ball from Boston Latin.

With one minute left, junior Scott Callahan made a terrific side basket once again to increase the score. Later, senior Eric McCord attempted to make two free throw shots, but only ended up achieving his second basket. The final score of the first quarter was 16-8.

During the second quarter, the first basket made by WA was accomplished by senior Daniel Cornelius, and upped the score by two points. A couple seconds later though, the opposing team evaded Westford Academy and made their first points of the second period making the score 18-10.

Halfway through the second quarter junior Bobby Hartmann sank a three point shot making the score 25-14. With 36 seconds left in the second quarter, Hartmann made both of his foul shots which ended the quarter at 33-18.

The third quarter was where WA really widened the divide on the scoreboard. Early into third period, Cornelius scored to bring the score to 38-21. Then with a nice pass from Fiorillo to Cornelius, the duo managed to make a two pointer, making the score 54-26 with two minutes left.

Toward the very end of the third period, Cornelius quickly scored a three point shot, and then another two pointer. This made the final score at the end of the third quarter to be 61-33.

WA was still making baskets from the beginning of the fourth quarter. Sophomore Connor Degenhardt made a three point shot one minute into the period. Then later collecting a great rebound off of an opposing team member.

Afterwards, junior Jason Hughes also got a rebound and was able to make a three point shot which made the score 72-36. WA made a few more baskets to end the game with WA defeating Boston Latin with a final score of 77-38.

“I thought we showed a lot of hard work and just kept our foot on the gas pedal,” said captain Daniel Cornelius.

After the multiple snow days preventing the team from practice, coach Bramanti was a little worried about how the team would play.

“I was a little nervous of coming out flat, but we didn’t. I was really happy with the outcome,” said Bramanti.
