Girls’ successful season comes to an end
By Doug Boyle Staff Writer The Westford Academy Girls’ basketball season came to end this Saturday, March 9th 2013, as they lost to Central Catholic, 60 to 51. The game was to decide the Division 1 North Sectional winner and now Central Catholic will now continue on to play the Western and Central sections for the state title at the TD Garden in Boston. The Ghosts were lead by junior co-captains Samantha Hyslip and Hannah Hackley. They both played great all game, having 17 points each. Hyslip also had 16 rebounds. McCord overcomes injuries to succeed
By Casey O’Connor Staff Writer The Westford Academy Varsity Boys Basketball team has had an outstanding season. Eric McCord, a sophomore at Westford Academy, has contributed to the team’s victory. McCord began playing basketball in 3rd grade. Watching his brother Scott, a junior at WA, play and also watching the NBA on television influenced McCord to start playing. McCord’s little sister, who is in seventh grade, also plays basketball and was influenced for the same reasons. “What made me want to play basketball was watching my older brother play. She has been on the school team since she was a freshman, and this is now her third year competing. Westford Alpine Ski carves their way to success
By Doug Boyle Staff Writer The Westford Academy alpine ski team season came to an end on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Both the girls and boys fought for state titles were unable to win. The boys finished fourth and the girls finished eleventh. For individuals, sophomore sensation James Larsen finished first place in the Giant Slalom with a time of 42.97. His teammate, junior Alex Antes finished fourteenth with a time of 45.05. Larsen beat out Andrew Solomon of Concord Carlisle who finished second in the Giant Slalom and first in the slalom. Varsity Hockey struggles through injuries
By Kyle Auger Sports Editor Varsity Boys’ hockey has historically been one of Westford Academy’s most successful and popular sports, however this season was a tough one, marred with injuries and underperformance, the team finished with a record of 3-15-3. The misfortune started early, when last year’s scoring leader Cam MacDonald suffered a broken clavicle early in the year. A well oiled machine must have all of its parts working together, each doing its separate job to collaborate and cooperate to achieve a common goal. Nordic ski glides to state championships

Brian Poon: the new Poseidon

The winter sports have now come to a close and Poon has been presented with the Westford Academy Most Valuable Swimmer Award at the winter sports banquet, held on March 13th. He was in Wisconsin for a meet for his Phoenix club swim team and was unable to receive the award since he was there.
