Boys hockey loses at home

As promising as this non conference hockey game started for WA, Hingham was resilient and was able to hold off the Ghosts and defeat WA 3-2.

WA could not ask for a better start to the game, as their first shot on goal found the back of the net and gave the ghosts an early 1-0 lead less than 5 minutes into the game. It looked as if it was going to be the Ghosts’ game, but Hingham had other ideas.

As the first period progressed, Hingham continued to get shots on goal, forcing senior Matt Restuccia to make numerous saves. Finally however, they found twine on a shot that Restuccia had no chance at, evening the game at 1.

Throughout the second and into the third period, Hingham continued to capitalize on their chances. Even as Westford started to get shots on goal, they were not powerful enough to beat Hingham’s goalie. Two goals later, they found themselves down 3-1 midway through the third period.

Despite the adversity facing the boys squad, they did not go down without a fight. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, senior captain Andrew Gounaris scored drawing WA to within 1 goal of Hingham. They continued to dominate the final 5 minutes, but ultimately Hingham’s defense was too strong, and Westford Academy suffered a tough 3-2 loss.
