At an away game on January 2, 2015 the Girls’ Basketball team played a tough game against Acton-Boxboro, they took a difficult loss with a final score of 56-30.

During the first period Westford Academy picked up their first two points in the game from foul shots. Besides the foul shots the first actual points were made by freshman Allie Mulhern, this allowed them to have a score of 11-4. Towards the end of the first quarter WA got another chance at two foul shots made by Madeline Russell who made the first basket, but missed the second one. Throughout the game AB was a dominating figure causing the score of the first quarter to be 23-5, in Acton-Boxboro’s favor.

In the second quarter, senior co-captain Morgan Ross made a shot giving WA three more points. Emily Bramanti had a great assist to Camille Desrochers leading to another three pointer. By the end of the period the score was 31- 12, with Westford Academy still putting up a struggle.

Westford Academy began making more improvements in the third quarter than in the first and second period, scoring the most points during this time.

Sophomore Angela Alibrandi made the first shot for either team in the beginning of the third quarter, this made for a very slow recovery with a score of 35-17. With only 1 minute left on the clock, Desrochers made a nice pass to freshman Elizabeth Arnold which allowed for 2 points to be made, allowing the score to be 42-21. The third quarter ended with a final scoring of 45-24.

As time was getting low on the clock during the fourth quarter, Emily Graham managed to get a fantastic rebound off of the opposing team, and managing a break away for the basket, earned the team a point, making the final score 56-30. Though it was not enough, the team as a whole put in a great effort.

Co-captain Morgan Ross explained how they were all doing their best, but could have been doing a better job at working together.

“We definitely could have done better. We were all trying our hardest but we were not working as a team. If we had worked together as a team we would’ve been able to make more baskets,” said Ross.

When asked how the team played overall Coach Russ Coward

“We played hard, but right now they are better than we are,” said Coach Coward.
