Girls’ Gymnastics beats Hudson High

At WA on December 18th, WA Gymnastics beat Hudson High School with a score of 138.9 points to 123.55.

WA started first with the vault, where sophomore Kiana Brown tied the school vault record for the second time with a score of 9.55. She currently shares the title with alumni Ashley Craig.

This was followed soon after by the bar and beam routines. Floor routines were performed towards the end of the meet. Each gymnast participated in either one, or multiple events.

This was only the team’s second meet of the season, having won against Newton South earlier in the week. However, they scored higher at this meet than the one they competed at on Monday.

“The [competition today] went very well, especially compared to Monday. We rocked on Monday too, but [today] we had a lot less falls […] It’s only the second meet of the season and we scored something that we usually score towards the end of each season, so it was very good,”  said coach Stephanie Anderson.

Additionally, the rotation the girls competed in was adjusted compared to Monday.

“We mixed the rotation up a little bit, giving everyone a little more chance to compete today,” said coach Tom Bonacci.

Overall, even though the team has room for improvement, they did well considering they still have the majority of the season still in front of them. Senior and co-captain of the team Sydney Pouliopoulos believes that the team will do well for the upcoming meets.

“I think the [rest of the season] is going to be pretty good […] At practice and stuff all the girls work really hard, and I think that if we stay focused […] then we can make it really far,” she said.
