    Seniors at the rally

Spirit week is a memorable week every year for every grade level. Let’s be honest, for seniors, spirit week is about reminding the tiny freshmen that seniors are superior in every way and there is little that they can do about it.

It starts the first hour of the first Monday of spirit week, on pajama day. Some freshmen and underclassmen try to pick out an outfit that looks like pajamas, but it ends up looking more like a costume. Seniors on the other hand, realize Monday is the first of five spirit days, so seniors can just walk out the door right after waking up wearing whatever they wake up having on – true pajamas. A blowout victory for the seniors.

As the week continues, seniors are now awake and can put in some effort for spirit week and go all out. Even the juniors and sophomores join in just to make sure the rattled freshmen remain at the bottom.

The week hits its grand finale on Friday, where the classes draw the line in the sand and battle it out behind of the school to prove who is on top. The freshmen see this as a last glimpse of hope, until the seniors storm onto the field screaming and chanting, deflating the hopes of many.

Overall, I think today was a success for the seniors. Sure, losing in the sumo wrestling was a bit of a disappointment after winning it the past three years, but the senior class proved once again how to fight through adversity and still win the day in dominant fashion.

From dragging the teachers off the field in tug of war, racing circles around the freshman in the potato sack race, and lastly showing how low we can go winning the final event of the day, limbo.

I know that I can certainly say that this was the most enjoyable spirit day and overall spirit week in the 4 years that I have been here, and I believe that in 4 years, when today’s freshmen turn into seniors, they will understand and most likely enjoy this week just as much as I did.
