It was a constant back and forth battle between the girls’ field hockey team and Lincoln-Sudbury, leading to a 1-1 tie. It is evident that the two teams came ready to play a strong game. Each player made a solid contribution to the win and helped highlight the fantastic ball movement of the Grey Ghost squad in every situation.
Thirteen minutes into the first half, senior Kathryn Walker walked the ball about ten feet from the goal and wound up for a shot. The ball was slowed down by a defender, but sophomore Colleen Ellis crashed the net and slammed it home for the first goal of the game. Even with the Ghosts on top the game was a continuous grind. Each team had their fair share of chances but the defense seemed unstoppable.
Coming into the second half the score was 1-0 WA and it was clear LS was eager to get up on the board. It seemed like everything was going LS’s way for a moment when the Ghosts had to play a man short due to a penalty. After one great save by the goalie, LS hammered the ball back into the scoring area and it fired right by the legs of Westford’s goalie. It was now 1-1.
Nearing the end of the game both teams put up a great effort to score, but the goalies played their part by shutting down everything that came their way. WA had a few close opportunities in the last minutes of the game, however, they could not capitalize.
