Girls’ Soccer suffered from a tough loss against Lincoln-Sudbury, losing by a score of 4-1. Lincoln-Sudbury took control for most of the game and had the majority of scoring chances.

The girls were behind early, as Lincoln-Sudbury scored just seven minutes into the game. WA would answer about twelve-minutes later to tie the game off a corner kick that deflected off of a Lincoln-Sudbury defender. Molly Maclure, who took the corner kick, would get credit for the goal. The girls put up a strong fight for quite some time until Lincoln-Sudbury took a 2-1 lead after a hectic scramble for the ball with about twelve minutes left in the half.

Goalies from both sides put up a strong fight for the entire first half, with big saves from WA’s Rebecca Stafstrom to keep the game close. At the half, Lincoln-Sudbury led Westford Academy 2-1.

The second half kicked off and was pretty even, until about seven minutes in, when Lincoln-Sudbury extended their lead to 3-1. Lincoln-Sudbury would have the advantage for the majority of the second half. WA fell into an even deeper hole when Lincoln-Sudbury scored to make it 4-1. This score would stand for the rest of the game.

“L.S. (Lincoln-Sudbury) is a strong team, we knew they were a strong team. They actually applied more pressure on us than A.B. (Acton Boxboro), and A.B. has a good rep this year, so I was a bit surprised at how well they did… They possessed, they attacked, and they took it to net…”, says head coach Tracy Capone.

Capone was also concerned about their work ethic at practice, and how they can be better prepared for their next game. “We have to work harder at practice. We have to work on our basics, we have to work on our combination play, and marking up in the middle. Big time. Those things will help us improve throughout the season.”

The girls will look to answer with a win, when Boston Latin comes to town this Saturday.
