Jennifer Kravitz is a new teacher here at Westford Academy. This is her first year at WA, and so far she loves how friendly all the staff and students are.

Q: Where did you teach before WA?

A: For the past 10 years or so I’ve been at Methuen High School.

Q: What classes do you teach here?

A: I’m teaching AP Biology and Forensics.

Q: What are your favorite things about WA so far?

A: It’s fabulous  here. All the staff, students, everyone is just so friendly, so welcoming. I really get the feeling that  every single person  is happy to walk int this building every day, which is amazing! You don’t  see that everywhere.

Q: Did you always intend to be a teacher?

A: I actually never intended to be a teacher. I actually have  two degrees in biology  and I thought I would go into a bio-tech [company]. But I started volunteering at a middle school [in] Chinatown and I  loved it…Then before I finished my biology degree, I started a teacher preparation program.

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?

A: I think  the thing I love the most, and the reason why I did end up teaching, is I really enjoy spending  time with teenagers… it’s such  an interesting time  in [their] life… making so  many huge decisions that are  going to impact your life. I just really enjoy  being a part in that and being able to mentor people, and sharing my love and my passion  with kids. All the scientists that I still know and talk to  think I’m crazy. ‘You would choose to be  in a room full of  teenagers?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah any day.’ I would take a room full of teenagers over a room full of scientists any day.

Q: When you’re not teaching what are you doing?

A:  I used to  have my own hobbies and now I have my own children…most  of my time  is spent  with my nuggets, which is what I call my children, nuggets.. It’s amazing how much  time you spend playing, or building with blocks, or coloring ,or doing stickers, but I have a lot of fun with it and my daughter. We spend a lot of time as a family and I have  a lot of family nearby, so I see a lot of family on weekends too.
