Does Westford Academy have our own Adam Vinatieri? We might with new kicker senior Alex Locker.
Locker was formerly a junior varsity soccer player who recently made the switch over the summer.
With such a dramatic change came hard work and determination.
“Every day, I’d go to Stony and kick field goals for like 2 or 3 hours, and I went to a couple kicking camps,” said Locker.
Why would the established soccer player venture into a new horizon?
“I was definitely thinking about college… I am going to try to pursue kicking in college, and I didn’t want to play soccer anymore,” said Locker.
And his addition to the varsity football team hasn’t come a second too soon, with a reliable kicker, it adds a new a facet to the offense, taking pressure off the quarterback knowing that every possession doesn’t need to end in a touchdown.
“Kicking a football is harder than a soccer ball right now,” said Locker, saying that he thinks soccer is more comfortable, but football has come pretty easy too.
The switch seems to be working for Locker and his team, after two games he has recorded 4 extra points and 2 field goals.
His skills have been rumored and it is apparent his talent is surprising, with a career long 47 yard field goal; replacing a hole on the depth chart that previously wasn’t filled.
With his arrival it will be interesting to see if senior Alex Locker can boot the football team into a state championship.
