As you already probably already know, former terrorist leader Osama bin Laden was killed by the United States Navy Seals on May 1st and America as a community has had responded correctly, with extreme happiness.

From my view I see this as a glorious period in American History and a day that should be remembered forever. This day is so great because it offers justice and retribution for those who died or lost family members on 9/11 and the ten years of military forces used to find the man and his organization. Although this won’t end the war, I think it should be a time for celebration and a turning point in this era of war and economic loss.

Even though the death of bin Laden isn’t a game changer strategically speaking, it is more a moral and emotional victory for the whole country. This is one of the times in history that brings the country together as a whole and provides support for those who lost so much.

One example of unity was on Monday night when the victory was announced at the New York Mets-Philadelphia Phillies game, when in the 9th inning people began to hear of the death and within two minutes the whole stadium was raining down USA chants. This type of response only happens once every great while and just the way the whole country has responded as a whole is a base for celebration.

Parties Rage With Pride

From my view I don’t remember the exact event of 9/11 since I was so young, but I clearly remember how it tore apart families and devastated everyone in the world. Despite me not exactly remembering the event, the after effects have been huge. I see pictures of the crash and thousands of lives ending, and I am hardened to it and just see it as commonplace. The fact that this devastation is accepted shows how bin Laden has truly affected everyone’s lives. Also, before 9/11 riding a airplane was an event that was something where you could just walk up and board a plane. Now this process is scary, long, and has made others feel even more unsafe about flying. I think that anyone like bin Laden who can be in charge of such an operation should be killed and the death of such a man should be a cause for nationwide rejoice.

After this momentous killing, Al-Qaeda is promising revenge, and both security and the armed forces are preparing for any counter-attacks. Even though the idea of these attacks is scary, I think there won’t be a successful attack due to the proactivity of the American police and army. I think this is a great time in history as families that were hurt beyond belief have finally achieved some revenge, and even though the war isn’t over, this is a huge boost for the American government, army, and the public in general.
