Lacking experience, Westford Academy varsity boys’ soccer team is kicking off this year’s season with questions.

“A coach is never happy, there’s always room for improvement,” said coach Tony DiLeo who’s coached Westford Academy for thirteen years.

Westford lost 12 seniors from the previous year, but what they lack in experience they make up for in talent.

“We have a lot of talented players,” said coach DiLeo.

This year’s Grey Ghost team has added four freshmen and seventeen new players in total to the roster. Out of the seven returning players, Senior Captain Rory Burk is unable to play this season due to injury adding another huge loss to this already young team.

So far with a record of two wins and four losses, the team has faced some early hurdles so far playing powerhouse teams in Concord Carlisle and Lincoln Sudbury. The Grey Ghost have beat both Boston Latin and Arlington, and lost to non-DCL local rival Chelmsford and most recently Weston in tough games.

So far this season, goals have been netted by Doug Searl, Peter Russo, Kyle Russo, Ben Osgood, Kurt Naugler, and Eric Bonnen.

Westford Academy has a tough road ahead in the Dual County League.

“Determination, discipline, and willing [ness] to battle,” are important assets to the team in the tough DCL said coach DiLeo.
