WA Idol Rocks the House

Last Friday, November 20, the school auditorium was packed with students, their families, and a few teachers for the annual Westford Academy Idol competition. This talent show was both impressive and entertaining.

Some performers provoked laughter from the audience, while others had people on their feet applauding and cheering wildly. By the end of the show, it was clear that the three teachers chosen as judges would have a difficult time picking the winners.

Throughout the entire performance, there was only one major technical difficulty during Krystal MacNeil’s rendition of “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Ray.

Other than that, the show ran smoothly. Joe Spadano, the host of WA Idol and a math teacher, improved the show by grandly introducing the contestants and making witty remarks between each set.

One of the WA Idol judges, English teacher Jason Humphrey, said at intermission, “It has been very entertaining so far.”

Another judge, English teacher Brian Mahoney also said he enjoyed the performance.

“It’s a great way to spend a Friday night,” said Mahoney.

Senior Bridget Ryan said, “There are some really great performances this year.”

At the end of the night, the four winners were announced.

In fourth place was senior John MacNamara, third place went to senior Evan DeTolla, second place went to sophomore Tak Wong, and fourth place went to a string quartet including Eileen Lu, Tien Chen, Chris Kawasaki, and Tommy Chen.

Math teacher and WA Idol judge Kristen Stamp said, “This was awesome, and I think everyone deserves credit for going up there and doing their thing.”
