At Westford Academy, Fashion Design Club is where you can express yourself through your own ideas and concepts.
At each meeting members sketch their own original designs, find inspiration in fashion magazines, and bring their ideas to life with the supplied sewing machines.
Donna Pobuk, who advises the club, talked about some of the fundraisers the club will take part in so that they can afford materials.
Their main plan currently is to sell handmade items at the upcoming Bazaar at Westford Academy. Some items they are planning to sell include jewelry made using buttons and hand painted tote bags.
“Members are very excited to transform their sketches into actual clothing this year,” said Pobuk.
The original creator of the club, Darien Stankowski, talked about her hopes that if the club raises enough money they will be able to have a big end of the year fashion show using everyone’s original designs whether they are dresses, jewelry, or bags.
Pobuk also talked about taking a field trip to Massachusetts College of Art and Design to see their spring fashion show for some inspiration.
With a growing interest in the club there are all different kinds of students a part of it now.
Both underclassmen and upperclassmen are a part of the club. Some members have been doing fashion design for a while like Sierra Chew-Chin, who is a senior who will be majoring in fashion design. However, the club is open, “to students of all levels, abilities and prior experiences with art,” said Pobuk.
Fashion Design Club meets on Wednesdays after school.
